  • these idiots are going backward lol. can't side load apps and the box will turn into shit after they stop the service like tvpad3. no android, no go. i will skip this box.
you are right, but think of this way, some ppl might think it is worth to pay the price if the box can sustain for a period of time since these boxes are not legalized anyway lol, especially for those ppl who already have one/more than one android boxes.

Hi, looking for some insight from anyone who has the A3!

A few days ago I placed an order for the A2 box on htv-box.com and received a message from Hellen the next day saying that my order has been "delayed." At the same time, she tried to upsell me on the A3 box for an extra $30USD, claiming it has better hardware and more live channels.

I currently have the HTV3 and am only interested in its Cantonese VOD and Playback apps.
Can anyone tell me if the A3 has the same two apps and therefore provide the exact same Hong Kong content that I am used to on the HTV3?

If that is all I care about, should I even bother with A3, or stick with A2?

    Thanks in advance!

Please do a review. Video if possible? Does it lag? How many channels total do you see thus far? Is it old people/parents friendly? Curious minds are inquiring... :o
I remembered admin said he will do a review once he receives the box, I guess he will provide a deep review on that, but for now, I will answer some questions that most of you concerning about:

    1) Does it lag? How many channels total do you see thus far? Is it old people/parents friendly?
    - Since A3 box uses a different server compare to any other version of H.TV boxes, there are nearly 250+ channels, mainstream channels are included so don't worry, I've tested for more than a month and nearly 0 lagging, please be advised that since this is NOT an android based box (Probably using Java), you are not allowed to install any other apps. The only thing that makes me a little bit annoying, as I mentioned before, the sorting is a mess, for both live channels and VOD streaming.

    2) Can anyone tell me if the A3 has the same two apps and therefore provide the exact same Hong Kong content that I am used to on the HTV3?
    - The box is not app-based, it separates stuff by categories (Ex: Live, Dramas, Movies etc...), and each category(for VOD) contains sub-categories (Ex: Action, Comedy etc...), so it is kind of what you said. However, as I said before, sorting is a mess, it is not easy to find the content since they are using a different server, they'll have to re-upload the contents so there might be some of the content that is not in A3 but for sure you can make a request and they'll upload for you. I really can't give you a fair suggestion for you since I am not totally satisfied with this box and there's a room for improvement, sorry about that.

If anyone has any other concerns regarding the A3 box please don't hesitate to ask me here, or dm me if possible. I used to be a forum admin for a former tvbox (of course it's already dead), for some ppl who read this post might know who I am haha. It is very nice to meet all of you, including some old friends.

And finalllllly, pardon my English grammar (I am a native Chinese haha)
Is A3 has the playback/replay function, like 7 days period to playback/replay on demand? Is it functions normally and as smooth as live tv? it's seem important cause time difference of Asia and North America.
  • Just bought an A3 box for my dad. Plugged in the HDMI and the power chord and all we get is a flashing red light in the front of the box. No screen on TV. Anyone else has this problem? Any solution? No reset button on the A3 box. Thank you guys in advance for your help.

You'll need to talk to the seller. Most people do not have the A3 here.

What TV do you have? I have a Samsung and it is no compatible with the AUTO MODE. I have to plug the HTV A3 to my other TV (SHARP) change TV MODE to NSTC and then plug it back to the Samsung.

@lmj326 is right, you'll either need to follow his instructions or use this instruction:

    - Please restart the box, then enter this code: 0034567800 via remote control, the box will restart after you enter the code, you should be able to use the box afterward.

    For ppl who reads chinese:
    - 请您重启机器,然后用遥控器盲输这串数字(遥控器靠近机顶盒):0034567800,之后机器会重启,重启后就可以收看节目了

    Hope this helps:)

Thanks A lot for your reply, I'll order one for my parents, hope it works well.
  • What is sexy tribe password
  • @imj326. My dad has a Visio, and I have a Samsung. The A3 box did not activate either screen. Does it work on any other brand of TV? So I can at least see the menu, and change it to NTSC mode?
  • @GOR0427. Tried what you suggested with punching in the code via the remote. The TV screen remains dark. Looks like I have to find a TV that is not NTSC to be able to see the screen display before changing the A3 box to NTSC mode?

first thing u should do is contact your seller, exchange for a new one or get a refund. if the tv box don't work out of the box, usually is the tv box problem.
  • PALS standard TV are hard to find in the USA.
  • @Tylerlee. Thanks, HTV box Hellen was very nice and did sent us a second A3 box, but we are having the same problem. If the A3 box puts out PALS signal and our TV only display NTSC, that would explain the problem. Now to find a PALS to NTSC converter will be the challenge.

Huh? Are you not using HDMI ? If you are using HDMI, there isn't NTSC or PAL.

    NTSC/PAL is ancient technology.

  • @padman. I am using HDMI, but no TV signal with two separate A3 box.

    Then it's not NTSC/PAL.

Try plugging it into a computer monitor

  • Hi. I am using HTV2, and the Cantonese Video and Variety Video app don't work any more starting a couple of days ago. Does anyone know whether it's the end of life for HTV2?
Which box should I get next? Seems like A2 is already out for a while, so it could be nearing end of life as well? Is the UPRO box good? Any update on the A3? Thanks in advance for your help.

Those 2 apps has been updated, and they stopped working from after the update. Did you buy you box from a authorized reseller? I got mine on ebay, and it is having the issue. My dad got his in a local store and his HTV2 is working flawlessly. All live app and VOD is working. I keep thinking our mac addresses are on list that has not been approved on the server. Took over 1 month for my box to work right after chinese new years.

Also for live channels download the updated chinese TV app. all the live channels are there now. hk, taiwan, china.

Thanks for the response. I got mine from Ebay. Lesson learned. I will only buy from authorized resellers now. I guess I still got more than my money's worth from HTV2 since I got lucky and was able to use it for more than 2 years. I now have read many threads in this forum, and it seems that there's lots of posts about the Unblocked Tech brand. Seems like the UPRO (OS version) is the next one that I should buy.
