PSA: VPN Unlimited deal for all TVPads

edited December 2015 in TVPad / BlueTV
Special Note: The APK will only work on TVPad 4. If you are a TVPad 1/2/3 user, you can request a PPTP login from VPN Unlimited to use with your VPN router

With a 3 years sub for $19 and lifetime for $39. It's probably the best thing out there. With 5 device limit as well!

I have created a tutorial on how to use and setup the app on TVPad.

Hopefully you don't miss out!

    Hi All,

I got answer from VPN Unlimited, see below.

    ==============
We don't support routers, but we can provide manual PPTP settings and .ovpn files for user with paid subscription (more then 1 year), but you will need to configure your device using our settings by yourself at your own risk. If you will be able to do that and have a paid subscription (more then 1 year), please, specify the email address that you have registered as an account in our system.

    Thank you for sharing Taknts..

Installed the VPN Unlimited apps in TVPad4 last night, connected to Hong Kong server which works great. All prior HK apps that did not work last month now is working! However, YUETV does not work when connect into VPN Hong Kong server. I think VPN route seem to be a longer term solution in compares to on-going changes of DNS..

The next step for me is to use VPN Unlimited to connect my TVPad3. I brought a new router looking to PPTP/L2 connect to VPN Hong Kong server. Can you please share your approach on how to setup the router configurations via VPN Unlimited?

I don't know anything about networking. Does PPTP mean it can work with a router?

Thanks Padman for all the info. Will the VPN work for TVPAD3 firmware 4.18? I do not have a router because my modem works fine for all my devices. DO I need to purchase two routers and are there any you recommend? I already have the PIA service installed on my PC.

Did you upgrade to 5.06? I did and was not able to run any VPN app on the TVPad 4. I am not sure if the firmware blocks the VPN port or it is corrupted.

If you are running TVP3 then the 2nd router is the only solution as you can't install apk's on TVP3

I just installed VPN Unlimited last night. It worked great, but after a power cycle the TVPad stopped working. The TVPad store is empty. I'm still on FW 5.054.

On VPN Unlimited, I now keep getting "VPN service was not started due to internal exception". I've tried auto network settings and manual settings using TVPad DNS and Google DNS. I've uninstalled and installed VPN Unlimited a few more times with no success.

What else is there to do? Will I need to restore the TVPad?

You will need to start the VPN Unlimited app and the VPN connection each time you power cycle since they don't have a auto-start feature (kind of a PITA).

Maybe try remove and reinstalling the VPN Unlimit app ? I had no issue after rebooting my TVPad with VPN unlimited app

    Thanks for your reply!

Yeah I did try to start it each time I powered the TVPad back up. VPN Unlimited will log me in just fine and will show my IP address at the top. The problem is, when I select a VPN server, it will give me the error message "VPN service was not started due to internal exception". I can toggle the On/Off switch, but it won't do anything anymore. Sometimes, the dialog box that was asking me if I trust the app won't show anymore. I've tried selecting different servers, and I also removed it a few times and even installed it using the app from your link and also the one I downloaded directly from KeepSolid.

I'm not sure what's different, as it did work very well the first time I used the app. Right now, I'm just stuck and really tempted to restore to factory, before trying the VPN again.

I did read ON THIS FIRST POST that removing power while using a VPN app can cause the ethernet or wifi to be buggy. I'm not sure if this applies to me in this case.

Thats strange then. Seems like its something specific to your tvpad itself. Maybe a corrupted file somehow

That's what I'm thinking too. I'll restore it tonight and report back here how it turns out.

Stack social has been selling for that price for a year, so it prolly wont expire anytime soon. From my experience, their HK server is super slow, I usually connect to their canada germany or romania and they have no problem streaming at full speed. Tvpad only use 1.2-2.0 at any time. Their support is also quick they were able to supply me the .ovpn profile of all their server 2 hours after i emailed them. I use their profile along with openvpn apk for the benefit of autostart, and change server without the need of a mouse. On top of that you can't go wrong for 3 years $19 even if tvpad decide not to work anymore after a year most you can lose is $19

Thanks for the information. Don't know much about stacksocial.

So with the openvpn standalone clone, it can also start when tvpad 4 is cold booted ?

Hi Lbe - VPN Unlimited does not support router. I would like to setup a 2nd router to connect to their H.K server for my TVPad3. Their tech support can provide manual PPTP settings and .ovpn files to configure our device at own risk. Just curious if you have instruction on how to configure router using these settings? Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated..

They claim not to support routers, but they use pptp. Also they have a dd-wrt router setup guide that they don't tell people about.

    https://www.vpnunlimitedapp.com/ddwrtsetup

Either way you need to contact their support email and ask for the settings and tell them your willing to use the settings at your own risk.

They just don't want to have to provide tech support on the many different types of routers out there. It took me a while to get it setup properly. I would suggest flashing your router with dd-wrt, then factory default it. The follow the guide word for word. You will still need to use manual Dns settings on your tvpads though. The 49 Dns did not work without the vpn, but after the router was setup it worked like a charm. Now all my mom's Asian friends are bugging me to set up theirs.

With VPN unlimited you get 5 clients, the router only counts as 1 client.

I left my tvpad4 off the router just to have a fall back in case something happens to the 49 dns. I am going to try and see if I can setup the router with a foreign public dns to see if it works so that I can go auto on the ip settings again.

    *edit*

I was unable to use the VPN on the router with foreign DNS settings, so I am still using Google's DNS and still using a manual DNS on my tvpads.

You are not alone, I have the same problem as yours but I am on firmware 5.06 I just got the OPENVPN config files from VPNunlimited, I will try to set it up on my router tomorrow. But I still prefer to start the VPN within TVPad4 itself. Will keep on looking for solution.

Dear BennyLam- Same problem after I power cycle (unplug) TVP4 with VPN Unlimited connection. Tech Support responded with this final message:
"Seems that the issue is with your device and a shorten of the OS on your device".

One member had to reinstall/install all apps, not just VPN Unlimited client to activate the VPN connections. I'm with you that will look into the router but still prefer to start the VPN within TVP4 itself.

Please keep the communication open and will do the same. Continue the long live TVPAD!!
