    I don't have that issue with old firmware. You can disconnect the vpn by going back in the app

    I'm trying to find the old firmware and see if I can go back to the old firmware and see if I can fix that problem or if I get it working again I'm not going to try testing out other country vpn.

    which router can set the VPN to Purevpn?

    PureVPN is just a service any router can set it to connect to any vpn. My Linksys and netgear both can set it on the vpn really easy.

    I just want to throw this in here as well. If anyone check slickdeals.net, you will see sometimes from https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ will have sales like 2 years for $60. I use that for other purposes and they are pretty good and stable imo.

    If you use VPN, why not just use Apple TV and download the MyTV app from TVB?

    Titanium backup might work . I just load the 23 app from the other thread which is same.

    If you vpn out with new firmware, should use auto dns.

    If you install VPN software APK into TVPAD and VPN to Hong Kong, there's no need to change DNS.

    Just tested this ZenMate VPN trial. Works fine for me. No need to change DNS.

    refined instruction of vpn setup for US user
    Must follow step in same order, I tested it with 3 different machine.

    0. for old firmware 5.0.54 tvpad4 only
    1. restore machine, (necessary step for new user or vpn might not work)
    2. boot all the way to desktop
    3. prepare usb with 23app (can be place in a folder)+ new banna installer ( must be place in root of usb) + es explorer + vpn app of your choice + any additional app you want.
    23 app- > mega:///#!iY1kiQqZ!ZqURVrGnL0kHzrf7GbN2UV6I-U3pPeld9QOTglg1EAk
    new banna installer -> http://www.speedyshare.com/KDV2h/batchinstall.banana
    es explorer -> http://www.dangbei.com/app/tv/2013/1123/92.html
    vpn of your choice -> super vpn, pure vpn, etc (any vpn with 500mb and unlimited speed, free trial)
    4. insert usb and install
    5. set manual dns to 49.213.10.163 (will work with auto dns but app store wont load)
    6. turn on vpn app and choose a server canada or hk, then connect
    6a do not adjust dns setting after connect to vpn or you will break ethernet setting and need to start from step 1
    7. enjoy
    8. use the red button on remote to put machine to sleep mode when not in use.

    A. if you need to cold boot / unplug power cord. manually disconnect the connection on vpn software first, or the ethernet and wifi setting will break
    B. in case of ethernet breakage, start from step 1. will take approx 5 min since you already prepared the usb
    C. If you need to cold boot, you will most likely need to setup new free trial vpn account since your limit would be used up.

    Thank you for your awesome guide in getting this setup. Everything worked out using privateinternetaccess vpn. Someone in one of these thread mentioned that privateinternetaccess(PIA) is on sale for 2 years for $60 on techbargain. You can try other VPN but I can't provide a feedback beside PIA and PureVPN that XChemical uses

    Titanium Backup requires root access, unless there is new info, the people who have rooted any of the tvpad boxes won't share how they rooted it.

    I am using OpenVPN

    here is the apk file if needed:

    OpenVPN APK Download

    I uploaded it to wetransfer, the original site I got it from sorta made me click all over the place before the file started downloading. I want to avoid people getting anything bad on their pc.
